Last year my wife and I took an extremely productive and valuable overnight retreat at the end of the year to evaluate the past year and align our priorities for this year. The two guides we used for this were YearCompass and Find Your Word. Recommended.

Nicholas Bate encourages us to choose our word for next year.

Choose a word. Any word. One word. Make it yours for 2025. Start thinking about it now. Whiteboard it. Write it every day on your planner. Put the word on a handful of 3 by 5 cards and place them in strategic places as an ever-present reminder. Make it BIG. Write it BOLD.

My word for this year was FINISH! (and, yes, I always write it in all caps with the exclamation point). I wrote it at the beginning of every month in my Daily Log. I wrote it on top of every task list. It helped motivate and guide me. It made the year better.

Living Off The Legacy – Handy Heights

Living off the Legacy” follows elder cousin, George Jefferson Sr., on a foraging, fishing, hunting, and food preparation journey through our family’s ancestral land, showing us how he lives off the legacy our ancestors left. A film by Patrice E. Jones. This film was a part of the 2024 Prototype Film Residency.

A lovely short film filmed and directed by my sister Patrice featuring our Cousin George about the footways of our ancestral land.

I made a little more progress on the walk-in shower remodel today. Installed the backing board. Here’s a before and after.

iPhone 11 Revisited

My iPhone 11, even though I have had it for five years now, is still getting software and security updates from Apple, and the battery is still decent for this phone’s age (around 80% maximum capacity). My iPhone 11 is still plenty fast (for me), and the camera still takes decent quality photos (for me).

Steve Best is keeping his phone. I have a 12 mini and have no plans to change it anytime soon.
