Very interesting.
My iPhone 11, even though I have had it for five years now, is still getting software and security updates from Apple, and the battery is still decent for this phone’s age (around 80% maximum capacity). My iPhone 11 is still plenty fast (for me), and the camera still takes decent quality photos (for me).
Steve Best is keeping his phone. I have a 12 mini and have no plans to change it anytime soon.

Some really interesting, and infrequently discussed, data about homelessness (shared with me by my wife):
Nationally, 50% of the homeless population spent time in foster care.
Related, my wife and I were struck by how few unhoused folks we saw in New Orleans.
Home for Good New Orleans is a community-wide effort to achieve low to no unsheltered homelessness in New Orleans by the end of 2025.
How? Give them a place to live.
Seems to be working.
Burn, build, bridge – annie’s blog
It’s easy to criticize. Easy to point, easy to blame. Interestingly, none of that sideline stuff counts as work. None of it moves us toward meaningful change.
Yep. This.
Execupundit.com: The Thanksgiving Pie Debate
There is the standard pumpkin pie: a true essential for Thanksgiving.
But then things become trickier: pecan, apple, chocolate cream, cherry, lemon, coconut cream, and some more exotic flavors such as Key Lime.
Shockingly, Mr. Wade leaves Sweet Potato completely off the list. The only worthy competition for which is Pumpkin.
Call this native born Black Southerner flummoxed.
As we round the curve, he clears his throat and tells me, with no preamble, that he thinks we’re not in love, maybe he’s never been in love, or actually loved me.
Almost 30 years ago, my first wife said almost exactly these same words to me. In a similar out of the blue fashion.
It took another decade to finally feel like I was worthy of love — any love — again. And when that happened, I found it.
Jamie has thoughts after writing 300 newsletters. Useful insights if that’s your jam too.
excerpt from my Sent folder: unions – The Homebound Symphony
One more contributor to Trump’s win that hasn’t been sufficiently acknowledged: it’s one of the consequences of the collapse of labor unions.
This is an astute observation.
Events in the Post-Covid World – Gladhill Rhone Consulting
Though some date the “end” of covid to 2021 when vaccines were first available, or to May of 2023 when it was declared “endemic,” I would argue that in many ways we are socially just entering the a “post-covid” state now, at least in terms of theater attendance and charity fundraisers. This year is certainly the first one for me where “gala season” has been back in truly full swing. And I have learned a few things from it.
My wife on what to expect from attending or hosting events these days.
